Identity released in I-80 trucker death; investigation continues
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The office of Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse on Monday issued a release on the Tuesday, Oct. 5 confrontation between state police and a trucker at the Interstate 80 eastbound truck stop in Greene Township. The incident resulted in the death of the rig driver, identified in the release as Nurgazy Mamyrov, 27, from Langhorne, Bucks County.
The release provided additional details on the Oct. 5 incident:
GREENE TOWNSHIP, CLINTON COUNTY – On 10/5/21 at 0433 hours, State Police responded to the Interstate 80 Eastbound rest area at mile marker 194 in Greene Township for a reported robbery with multiple shots fired. The suspect was identified by witnesses as the operator of a tractor trailer that was still located at the rest area.
The alleged robbery occurred at the rest area as the suspect had reportedly “shot out” the vehicle windows of other motorists at the rest area. The suspect was also reported to be armed and chasing other motorists at the rest area.
State Police were able to locate the suspect who had barricaded himself inside a tractor trailer. State Police attempted to block the suspect’s vehicle from exiting the rest area and gave verbal commands to the suspect to exit the tractor trailer. The suspect then drove forward and crashed into multiple patrol vehicles in the apparent attempt to strike Troopers and gain entry onto Interstate 80 East. State Police then discharged their firearms, striking the suspect multiple times inside the cabin of the tractor trailer.
State Police entered the tractor trailer and rendered aid but the suspect ultimately died as the result of multiple gunshot wounds, which was later confirmed by an autopsy on 10/6/21. The Suspect was identified as 27-year-old male, Nurgazy MAMYROV of Langhorne, Pennsylvania.
Several Troopers suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident and were treated by EMS at the scene.
The matter remains under investigation and a final review by Clinton County District Attorney Dave Strouse as part of the standard procedure for all Officer Involved Shootings.
