Trucker killed in shooting incident with state police in Greene Township

GREENE TOWNSHIP, PA – State police say an as yet unidentified trucker was killed after officers opened fire responding to the report of a robbery at the Interstate 80 eastbound truck stop before sun-up Tuesday.

Police spent much of the morning investigating the incident and released this statement:

On 10/5/21 at 0433 hours PSP Lamar responded to the above location for a report of shots fired during a robbery. Members were able to locate a suspect that was in his tractor trailer. The suspect barricaded himself in his tractor trailer. Members blocked the suspect vehicle in and attempted to give verbal commands to the suspect. The suspect then drove his vehicle into two police vehicles nearly striking members at which time members discharged their firearms. Members rendered aid to the actor, but the actor died from his injuries at the scene. Several Troopers sustained minor injuries during this incident and were treated by EMS.

Investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Police labeled the incident as a “robbery/police involved shooting,” listing the victims as seven members of the state police (as noted in their statement, those injured received minor injuries). Police said the identity of the trucker will be released pending notification of next of kin.

The incident brought a large scale police response to the rest stop and trucks which had been encamped there overnight were being held up through late morning as police conducted their investigation.
