Traffic signal improvement project begins in Lock Haven

The first dig for work at E. Main and Mill Streets began on Monday

LOCK HAVEN, PA – A state-funded traffic signal improvement project began in downtown Lock Haven on Monday. First up was at the intersection of E. Main Street and Mill Street.

According to Lock Haven Public Works Director Tony Stopper, work at 10 traffic signals will take place over the next year. The work at Main and Mill Streets involves the installation of a Rapid Response Flashing Beacon system near Triangle Park to enhance the safety for pedestrians crossing the street – the system alerts motorists that a pedestrian is in the walkway.

Also as part of the overall project, traffic signal improvements are planned at:

– the 5-way intersection at the Civil War Monument at Bellefonte Avenue/Church & Corning Streets

– Bellefonte Avenue/Commerce Street

– Church/Henderson Streets

– Church/Vesper Streets

– Jay/Church Streets

– Jay/Main Streets

– Water/Grove Streets

– Main/Hanna Streets

– Main/Grove Streets

– Main/Vesper Streets

M&B Services LLC of Clarion, PA, is the contractor on the $2.7 million job. The project will continue into the 2022 constructions season, with completion expected in September of 2022.

The contractor will restrict traffic to a single lane while work is ongoing. These are daylight closures, and the contractor will lift them at the close of each workday. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution while traveling through the work zone as they may encounter flaggers in the roadway.

Improvements include upgrades to the traffic signal supports, vehicular and pedestrian signal heads and controllers, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps with detectable warning surfaces, curbing and sidewalks, paving, pavement markings, and miscellaneous construction. PennDOT will issue updates on the project as improvements begin at each signalized intersection.
