County assessment board okays massive assessment drop for former Dickey School
LOCK HAVEN, PA – According to information from Lock Haven City Manager Greg Wilson, the Clinton County Assessment Board has approved a 78% percent reduction in the assessed valuation of the former Dickey School building in Lock Haven’s fourth ward.
Wilson reported at city council’s Monday night meeting that the county assessment board (composed of the three county commissioners and county chief assessor Keith Yearick) notified him Monday the new assessed valuation for the property, now back on the tax rolls, is $225,000.
The building’s new owner, Dickey Realty LLC, had purchased the building by auction in March of this year for $80,000. The building had been closed down and put up for sale by its previous owner, the Keystone Central School District.
Dickey Realty owners Robert Maguire and Micah Clausen had sought to have the valuation placed at $80,000, the price they paid.
Wilson told council that at the new $225,000 valuation, the new owners will be receiving an interim real estate tax bill for $924 this year and the figure will go to $1,992 next year. The building had been valued at something over $1 million by the county and the new owners had filed in August for a reassessment.
The new owners have not yet announced what plans they have for the structure, constructed in 1966.
