For the Record – Oct. 2, 2014

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not clue if it’s true; the word from the news line is that a mover and shaker among the Heritage Park committee people is talking about the possibility of a Heritage Hog Fest. We’re not sure if he’s talking about two wheel Hogs or four legged ones cooked on a spit.

The commissioners are coming …

Clinton County Commissioners will be holding their November meeting 7 in Renovo. Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but I heard that the commissioners had been thinking about meeting in Renovo in October but changed their minds when it was clear that they would get second billing.

Along the grapevine …

Charlie Long in Maryland called Ray Stiner in Montoursville who called Hoodle Fox in Williamsport who called Bud Hallberg in Farwell to tell him that Jimmy Robins in California had died. Jimmy was a boyhood buddy of all of theirs and a long-time musician. He played tenor sax and was an original member of the Jive Five, a band started in Renovo on May 18, 1944 in Renovo. As time went on the group grew to six and seven members and at one point the Jive Five grew to twelve. Through the years some of band members included Ted Sacarnosky, Dorsey McGuire, Basil Sacarnosky and Jon Emel. The original Jive Five were Robbins, Stiner, Fox, Bob Gutt and Hallberg. Hallberg, Fox and Stiner survive.

An idea to consider …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, that an area businessman is encouraging neighbors of abandoned properties to buy them rather than let them deteriorate or become overgrown and an eyesore.

What’s new? …

Anyone who says Renovo and surrounding areas are just sleepy, little, nothing-to-do towns isn’t paying much attention. In Renovo for instance, four new businesses have opened in the past year, two of them in the past month. Darlene Mills has in the past week begun serving breakfasts at Big Louie’s and a Deli and Sub shop has opened at Scoots last Friday. They join other recent business additions to town, Plan B and Moose and Goose. We wish them all success.

Elks invite you …

Renovo Elks Lodge 334 will host Penny Sings Patsy Oct. 11 at the lodge at 118 4th Street, Renovo. The show is a Patsy Cline tribute show. You must be 18 or older to attend. Advance tickets are $8 or $10 at the door.
