“It’s Okay To Ask For Help” Andrea Rose Counseling, LLC to Open Renovo Office
By Christopher Miller
“It’s okay to not be okay” is the first thing that the eye catches when viewing the website for the newly established Andrea Rose Counseling, LLC located below Family Practice of Renovo on Huron Avenue (Route 120) in Renovo.
Andrea R. Tarantella, Pre-Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, NCC, CCTP (letters to be explained shortly) is accepting new referrals starting Monday, June 7.
Having worked in the mental health field for the better part of a decade, Andrea and her husband decided recently to return home to Renovo and begin to give back to the community they grew up in and cherish.
“We were living in the Philadelphia area for the last 7 or so years, we grew up in Renovo together and all of our families are back there,” Andrea explained. Due to the pandemic and the “discovery of working remotely,” it just made sense to the Tarantella’s to leave their big city life behind for the endless mountains of the PA Wilds.
Andrea is a graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, and a graduate of Capella University with a Master of Science Degree in Counseling.
And those letters behind Andrea’s official title? Let’s dissect it:
Andrea R. Tarantella, Pre-Licensed Professional Counselor, MS, NCC, CCTP
MS = Master of Science
NCC = National Certified Counselor
CCTP = Certified Clinical Trauma Professional
In order to be a fully licensed mental health counselor in Pennsylvania, one must log at least 3,000 hours of clinical experience which could take more than 2 years to complete.
The age ranges of patients that Andrea will be seeing can range from 10-17 years old (Adolescents), and those who are age 18+ (Adults), and Couples. Appointments are being offered both in-person or through telehealth and will be billed using a sliding scale fee structure.
Explained, the sliding scale fee structure allows for the client to apply for a lower session fee based on their household income. No insurance is necessary.
Andrea’s specialties include, but are not limited to: anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD. A particularly interesting trauma treatment that is beginning to trend in recent years is that which is known in the field as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Doing some quick research, this treatment allows for the patient to recall a traumatic experience in brief doses while the therapist directs a patient’s eye movements, therefore diverting attention and making the traumatic experience recall less emotionally upsetting.
Some examples of types of therapy approaches used during sessions are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (explained above), and Person-Centered. “I want people to be aware of my approaches, because we as counselors use trauma-focus, strength-based, and solution-focused types of therapies,” Andrea explained.
“I like to see each person as their own individual person,” Andrea mentioned. “A lot of people who have not done counseling do not know what happens in a session, such as gathering information through intake, screening, and diagnosing.” Andrea plans to use as many modalities as she can, and will specialize the counseling to that person because “we are not a “one size fits all” population.”
“I truly believe in coordination of care with other providers such as pediatricians, psychiatrists, family doctors, group counseling…the more we collaborate, the better it will be for treatment,” Andrea explained. “If I am not a good fit for the client, I will make a referral to someone who may fit the needs of the client better.”
“Anyone can benefit from counseling, not just those who suffer,” Andrea said. “It helps everyone, like those who want to manage stress, have better habits, relationships – mental health is for everyone…you do not need intense needs.”
“There is no physical look to mental health.”
