PA Votes Yes on May 18th

Editor:
May 18th is the primary election. Every registered vote needs to vote. Independent voters need to come out and vote on the Amendments. If you are not a registered voter, and will be 18 years old, by May 18th, please register. You can pick up a voter registration form at the Clinton County courthouse, on Piper Way, or go online to register at https://www.clintoncountypa,com/department/voter-registration”. The last day to register for the primary is May 3rd.

On proposed constitutional amendment 1, we are hoping for you to vote Yes on this. This will increase the power of the general assembly to unilaterally terminate or extend a disaster emergency declaration. This would bring more power back to we the people.

On proposed constitutional amendment 2, we are hoping for a YES vote. This would have a disaster emergency to automatically expire after 21 days. After the 21 days the general assembly would be aloud in put on how to continue. This would keep any Governor from over stepping his power and holding, we the people hostage, while destroying small businesses.

On proposed constitutional amendment 3, we are again hoping for a yes vote. Prohibition against denial or abridgement of equality of rights because of race or ethnicity. To be honest, I thought that was in the constitution. It never occurred to me, that it needed to be in the PA constitution as well.

I can’t imagine who would say no to any of the above amendments. That brings us to item #4. This is about making municipal fire and emergency medical service companies eligible for loans. At first, I wanted to say yes. After it was explained to me in more detail, I will vote NO. A yes vote would make it harder to get help to our volunteer fire companies. In Clinton County all of the fire companies are volunteer, and they work hard to find ways to fund themselves. Our fire companies in Clinton County are amazing, and we want to help them all we can. A no vote on #4 would be the best way to help them.
