KCSD board okays $1.3 million Bucktail improvement project

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Keystone Central School Board held a special voting meeting Thursday night to give the go-ahead for better than $1.3 million dollars in façade improvements at the Bucktail High School this summer.

The board unanimously approved the award of the contract to the low bidder, JC Orr & Son Inc of Altoona. The work is officially dubbed the Bucktail Canopy and Exterior project. The Orr bid was $1,325,520, along with another $37,000 in board-approved alternates.

Approval came after district superintendent Jacquelyn Martin told the board at a meeting last month that there will be “a lot going on” this summer at the Bucktail Middle/High School. The school is due for an overall $6.3 million upgrade.

Some of those improvements discussed at the board’s work session in March included windows, blinds, exterior doors and canopy entrances. Other parts of the upgrades will cover air conditioning, LED lighting upgrades, building envelope upgrades and mechanical insulation.

Others improvements are to include upgrades to the cafeteria, girls locker room, tennis courts, FCS classroom, library, science classroom, office and office space and emergency generators; also hot water heaters. Also ticketed are floor replacement and finishing, asbestos removal, ceiling replacement and emergency lighting, roof replacement and Bucktail/Renovo Elementary main gear replacement.

The district is also looking at improvements to the Bucktail football and softball fields, as discussed at a meeting of the board’s curricular/co-curricular committee earlier this week.
