Wildcat girls make strong showing at state championships

MANHEIM, PA – Central Mountain’s first girls’ wrestling team made an impressive showing at Sunday’s Girls Wrestling State Championships at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim.

Biff Walizer, who coaches both the boys’ and girls’ teams at Central Mountain, said he was “super proud of our inaugural CM girls wrestling team!” The squad returned from Lancaster County with two state medalists and each of the five entries won at least one match.

Senior Madison Packer, a starter on the boys’ team this season, went 4-1 on the day and earned a third place medal. Freshman Rhiannon McCracken went 1-1 and was runner-up at 184 pounds.

Other participants (with comments from coach Walizer):
Sophomore Leeah Eisenhower (1-2) @101 (tough only weighing 95)
Senior Olivia Miller (2-2) @108 (win away from top 6)
Freshman Abigail Sneath (1-2) @122 (lost to eventual champ)

Central Mountain is one of nine schools within Pennsylvania with a school district-sanctioned girls’ program (the PIAA requires 100 such programs to officially recognize a new sport to its approved list of sports).

The Keystone Central School Board had approved the program last fall. Walizer and assistant boys’ coach Doug Buckwalter coached the girls’ team this season and at Manheim.
