Construction expected this year on mini-casino at old Nittany Mall Macy’s site
STATE COLLEGE, PA – Officials in College Township have released additional information on the planned $120 million mini-casino to be located in the now vacant Macy’s site in the Nittany Mall.
The township this week shared an update on the casino which would include up to 750 slot machines, 30 table games, a sports-booking area, a restaurant and an entertainment area. Casino principals Ira Lubert and Bally’s Corporation on Tuesday submitted an application to the state Gaming Control Board, six months after Lubert had submitted a successful $10 million license bid. It is not known how long the state review will take, but developers hope to have construction underway later this year. The construction phase is expected to take about a year.
State Senate President Pro Tem Jake Corman (R-Benner Township) told the Centre Daily Times, “This is something that College Township has been looking to achieve for some time and, obviously, anything that can bring activity to the Nittany Mall will be helpful since it’s obviously a shopping center that has come under tremendous challenges lately. This is good news; this is what College Township wanted. Hopefully, as we’ve found in other parts of the state, these have been nice destinations for social activities and will hopefully add another amenity to the county.”
