Lady Wildcats surge late to down Shamokin, 62-44

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – It looks like a trend is developing for the 3-0 Central Mountain girls’ basketball team: a strong finish. For the third time in three games, the Lady Wildcats have dominated the opposition in the final stanza. Saturday night it was visiting Shamokin on the receiving end, part of a 62-44 Central Mountain win.

The Lady ‘Cats were protecting a 40-37 lead after three periods, then took control down the stretch, outscoring the Lady Indians by a 22-7 score to win going away. Eight different CM players dented the scorebook, led by senior Avery Baker and freshman Ava Renninger, each with 15 points. Quinlynn McCann was next with nine, Kiahna Jones with seven. Chipping in with six each were Alyssa Fisher and Mia Kopyscianski, followed by Reese Doyle and McKenzie Bubb with two each.

Jones pulled down 11 rebounds, Doyle next with six. Renninger had four steals, Baker three, part of a team total of 10 thefts. Jones had three blocked shots, McCann two.

Shamokin dropped to 3-3 with the loss. The Lady Wildcats will be home Tuesday, Jan. 26, vs Selinsgrove (2-1), jayvees at 6 p.m., varsity at 7:30 p.m.
