Hometown Hero Banners Honor Veterans, Emergency Responders; Health Care Workers Added to the Program in 2021

Backers of Downtown Lock Haven, Inc.’s Hometown Hero Banner Program said they are proud to announce a new category for the New Year. As part of the 2021 program, health care workers will be added to the veterans and first responder categories from previous years.

Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. manager Marie Vilello and banner committee chair Cara Montarsi are spearheading the effort to recognize those on the health care frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vilello said, “There is no better way to honor the nurses, doctors and all health care providers than through a Hometown Hero banner in the downtown.” Montarsi added, “There are untold hundreds in our area who have unblinkingly stepped up to assist the community during these unparalleled times; these people are heroes in every sense of the word.”

If you would like to honor a local hero, you can do that for $200. The downtown organization is running an early bird special; you can have your new banner for $175 if you order by Jan. 31, 2021.

The organization also has gift certificates available for anyone that would like to give a “socially distanced” holiday present to someone you love this year.

In addition to new banners, now is also an opportunity to have your previous banner hung up (pending inspection – DLH wants you to be proud of your loved one’s banner) for $50. You can instead choose to have your banner reprinted with the program’s new design for 2021 for $100.

Montarsi said, “Thank you for your past support! We are looking forward to working with you again this year!”

You can place your order by visiting DLH online at www.lockhaven.org, calling at 570-748-1576 or stopping in at Downtown Lock Haven.

The cut-off date for all banner orders is June 28, 2021 and the banner program has announced there will be a ceremony in late August to unveil the new banners.

The DLH officials said if you do not personally have a veteran, first responder, or health care worker that you know but believe in the program, you can sponsor a banner, as there are instances where families are unable to pay for a banner themselves. The banner program is a fundraiser in support of Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. They also extended a ‘thank you’ to all the veterans, first responders and health care workers making sacrifices every day for the community.
