Jaycees’ Senior Holiday Meal Tradition Continues on Sunday
LOCK HAVEN, PA – COVID-19 forced the Lock Haven Jaycees to scuttle the boat portion of its annual Labor Day Regatta in September, but a modified show still went on. That will be the case this Sunday, Dec. 13 when the Jaycees present their annual Senior Citizens Holiday Meal at the Jaycee Hall on E. Water Street. But because of the coronavirus, this year’s edition will be drive-through only.
Per longtime Jaycee leaders DuWayne Kunes and Scott Johnson, meal service will begin at 12 noon on Sunday and senior citizens should enter the alley next to the Jaycee Hall from Water Street. Meals will be served from the rear parking lot. For those unable to travel to the hall, the Jaycees will deliver, within a reasonable distance; if seeking home delivery, recipients are asked to call the hall at 570-748-6388 and leave a message and a Jaycee will respond. Those receiving the meals are asked to wear masks.
Kunes said the community organization is “happy to keep this long-standing event alive and wish the best for our friends and families this Christmas.” Sunday’s event will mark better than 40 years.
The Jaycees will be serving up from ten 20-pound turkeys; along with homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy made by Fox’s Market House restaurant with the Jaycees’ turkey drippings, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, desserts from the Lock Haven Women of The Moose, and bread and desserts from the Lock Haven Weis.
The Jaycees emphasized that the car line should come east on Water Street, down the alley and out down the alley. Meals will be limited to four per car.
