Nittany Lions Lose 16 Point Lead, Lose Game to Seton Hall

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men’s basketball team fell in overtime 98-92 to the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday evening. Seton Hall’s strong second half was enough to send the game into overtime and the Pirates edged the Nittany Lions in the extra five minutes of play.
Seton Hall found their rhythm in the second stanza, as the Pirates shot 65.5% from the field and 5-9 from behind the arc. The Pirates were able to use their inside presence to keep up with the Nittany Lions fast paced attack as Seton Hall scored 54 points in the paint.
Seton Hall also took advantage of their 35 opportunities at the free throw line, making 23 free throws during Sunday’s contest.
Penn State’s leading scorer, sophomore forward Seth Lundy, scored the first five points in the overtime period to give the Nittany Lions an 89-86 lead with 2:51 remaining in overtime.
Seton Hall made nine free throws, including their final five points of the game, in overtime to secure a 98-92 win.
To begin the second half, the Pirates opened by going 9-9 from the field to cut the Nittany Lions lead to 56-53 with 14:31 to play.
The physical back-and-forth battle continued and Seton Hall was able to keep pace with Penn State’s effective perimeter offense. In total, the Nittany Lions knocked down 13 triples.
The Nittany Lions shooting from behind the arc was key to the lead midway through the first half. Penn State had six different Nittany Lions drill six treys to grab a 26-10 lead with 11:22 remaining in the opening stanza.
Penn State held a 10-8 lead just five minutes into the game and then exploded with a 16-2 run behind efficient 3-point shooting.
Penn State kept the tempo at a high pace throughout the first half to combat the Pirates size.
Seton Hall used an 8-0 run to trim the Nittany Lions lead to 40-29 with just over two minutes to play in the first half. Lundy scored Penn State’s final five as the scored read 45-34 at the break.
Seton Hall’s Sandro Mamukelashvili led all scorers with 30 points. Lundy finished with 23 points and six Nittany Lions finished in double figures on Sunday.
