Berkshire Hathaway Completes Purchase of Dominion Energy Pipeline and Storage


GREENSBURG, PA – Word came Monday that Berkshire Hathaway Energy has completed its acquisition of Dominion Energy’s Gas Transmission and Storage in its eastern region. The overall $9.7 billion transaction had been announced in July of this year. The purchase includes Dominion’s natural gas storage facility at Leidy.

At the time of the purchase announcement, The Record reported there were 55 employees at Leidy plus another 10 or so based out of Leidy.

The purchase finalization announcement came from Don Houser, previously state policy advisor for Dominion and now state policy advisor for Berkshire Hathaway Energy Gas Transmission and Storage:

Berkshire Hathaway Energy has completed its acquisition of Dominion Energy’s Gas Transmission and Storage business in the eastern region. This new company, BHE GT&S, is now a standalone subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s Pipeline Group and will be led by Paul Ruppert serving as President. The western division of the business is anticipated to follow in early 2021, pending all outstanding regulatory approvals.

In the eastern region, names of the GT&S major operating companies will include Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage, Inc. (f/k/a Dominion Energy Transmission, Inc.), Cove Point LNG, LP (f/k/a Dominion Energy Cove Point LNG, LP), Eastern Energy Field Services Inc. and Niche LNG, LLC.

• 411 employees with Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage, Inc.
• 32 compressor stations (12 storage, 20 transmission, 1 pump station —please note that one facility is dual-use)
• 1482 miles of transmission pipeline operated (Eastern Gas/DETI)
• Niche LNG is a partnership between BHE GT&S and REV LNG offering customized solutions for LNG liquefaction, storage, transportation, and on-site vaporization with its first facility near Towanda, Bradford County nearing its in-service date.

New York
• 70 employees with Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage, Inc.
• 8 compressor stations (2 storage, 6 transmission)
• 896 miles of transmission pipeline operated (Eastern Gas/DETI)
• Iroquois Gas Transmission System, L.P., (IGT) through its wholly owned subsidiary, Iroquois Pipeline Operating Company, operates a 414-mile interstate natural gas transportation pipeline. The line extends from the U.S.-Canadian border at Waddington, NY, through New York State and western Connecticut to its terminus in Commack, NY, and from Huntington to the Bronx, NY. IGT is jointly owned by BHE GT&S and TC Energy and regulated by the FERC.

BHE GT&S will be headquartered in Richmond, VA, with other main offices for the east in Bridgeport, WV, and Columbia, SC.
