The Fruit Bat …

Youngsters who attended Bible School at St. Joseph’s this summer had a surprise visitor one night, a bat that flew in to see what all the fun was about. The bat that visited has been called the “fruit bat” by some who saw it and it also appeared to grow in size during its visit because each time it was mentioned the wing span grew wider.
Father Charles Ugo also visited the young people, but we’re not sure if he and the bat were there at the same time. We did hear that most of the children wanted their picture taken with Father Charles. No one said anything about the bat joining in for the photo session. And I personally haven’t seen the bat in any of the pictures I saw. This was the first time in a number of years that St. Joseph held Bible school so the organizers are pleased to note that the Bible School was a success. The real proof, I’ve been told, is that after the bat visit one youngster exclaimed, “This is the best Bible School ever.”

Fairview Cemetery …

A few months ago I asked who owned Fairview Cemetery. An Arizona reader of the Record writes that he believes the owner may be a Richard (Dick) Mazzulla. R. Cody Allison of Florence, AZ writes that the cemetery in Farwell was previously owned by Blair Cicero Getz (known as Chark). Getz was the owner at the time of his death in July 1932. Allison writes that Mr. Mazzulla is the caretaker and owner of Fairview Cemetery, and he is a grandson of Blair Getz. Allison responded to my question and he notes that he has a question of his own – does anyone know how Blair Getz came to be called “Chark?”

Rumor has it …

Rumor has it, not a clue if it’s true, but the scuttlebutt is that John Curcio of North Bend is the designated toll taker for the suggested toll booth if there is ever a bypass built to divert truck traffic around Renovo instead of through it. Be Happy, don’t worry, it’s highly unlikely that anything will come from this rumor. While John may be willing and able to man the toll booth, the money to build the bypass is in the pie in the sky.

PRR cleanup set …

The PRR group in Renovo is planning a week-long cleanup project for the greater Renovo area the week of Sept. 21. This will be the second year the group has done an area cleanup prior to the annual state Flaming Foliage Festival. Everyone is urged to participate by taking care of their immediate surroundings.
