Three Men Charged in Emporium Beating

EMPORIUM – Three men have been arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide in the savage beating of an Emporium man early Sunday morning.

Emporium state police said they were dispatched to E. Greenwood Street in the borough at 5:30 a.m. Sunday for what they said was a possible disturbance. They discovered that an assault had occurred, the victim allegedly attacked with a wooden dowel rod, a metal pipe and a hatchet; he was also the victim of multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, police said.

Police did not release the identity or condition of the victim, other than to report he is a 54-year-old from Emporium.

They said three men were taken into custody without incident, arraigned before district magistrate Mark Jacob and remanded to the Potter County Jail in default of $250,000 bail. Charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, attempted criminal homicide and aggravated assault causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon were: Samuel Scott Sherwood, 33, from Emporium; Shayne Aaron Sage, 28, from Emporium; and Jeremiah Joshua Putt, 22, from Smethport.
