Political Sign Thefts Crop Up in Lock Haven Area; Off-color Sign Down

LOCK HAVEN – Police in Woodward Township and Lock Haven are investigating the multiple overnight thefts of political signs.
Woodward Township police on Friday reported three or four sets of signs were taken while Lock Haven police said they had three such reports come in Friday morning. All the signs taken were for Democratic candidates, police said.
City police said they do have video of the Lock Haven thief at one city location and asked that anyone else who might provide video to contact them at 570-893-5911 or township police at 570-858-5676.
Meanwhile a political sign containing an obscenity, located near the entrance to the Woodward Elementary School, has been removed. Township police had been contacted by a member of the public who expressed a concern about an outdoor political sign’s content. Police said the resident was within his or her Constitutional “freedom of speech” rights but the person would be asked to reconsider the sign’s content and location, given its proximity to the school entrance. By Friday evening the sign had been taken down.
