New Home Finished for Old Hope-Hose Bell
LOCK HAVEN – The bell restoration project at the Hope-Hose Fire Company on E. Church Street in Lock Haven is complete. The bell which once sat atop an earlier edition of the fire hall on Grove Street is now part of a new fire company sign at Hope’s current building which dates to 1971.
Brownie’s Signs oversaw the sign construction process with brickwork provided by Rus Contracting of Mill Hall. The bell dates to 1881 and was moved to the roof of the new fire hall in 1971 but was taken down in 1991 because the bell tower and siren were causing damage to the building. The bell had been sitting inside the fire hall until moved to its new home at the entrance to the Hope-Hose building.
