KFC ‘Coffee Guys’ Adapt to COVID-19

LOCK HAVEN – A tradition that dates to 1987 was briefly curtailed by the onset of the coronavirus, but as mid-March restrictions were eased in June, that daily tradition renewed, but outdoors and with masks.

The ‘Coffee Guys’ at the Lock Haven KFC are happy to be able to gather every morning to address issues of the day. The retirees first began their meetings in 1987 at the old KFC location on High Street in Flemington. When KFC moved to its Five-Way Light location in Lock Haven, the coffee guys moved with them.

As a result of the coronavirus, KFC had to temporarily shut down from mid-March until June. When it reopened for drive-through service only, the coffee guys had to adapt, moving their morning get-togethers to the front of the restaurant. They have to provide their own chairs and masks (which they were all wearing), and KFC takes care of the coffee.

The group said most of the members are Democrats, there being but a couple Republicans in the assemblage. But they said all are treated with dignity and respect.

And when indoor dining returns to KFC, they plan to move back inside and continue to resolve pressing issues, both locally and worldwide.
