Lock Haven’s Pedestrian Mall Gets High Marks at Council Meeting

LOCK HAVEN – After last weekend’s holiday hiatus, Lock Haven’s downtown pedestrian mall will be back in place this Friday and Saturday, July 10 and 11.

The reviews are in for the first few weeks of the E. Main Street closure and the grades are very good. Clinton County Tourism Director Julie Brennan participated in city council’s Monday night virtual meeting and said the feedback has been “great,” with support from both businesses and community members.

City Manager Greg Wilson reported on the results of a city-conducted online survey on the downtown program’s first couple weeks. Through 4 p.m. Monday, Wilson said, 386 surveys had been returned with 348 of the respondents stating they believe the pedestrian mall helped business. Another 35 expressed the belief the Main Street closure from Jay to Vesper Streets hurt business and another three made no response.

City Mayor Joel Long concurred, stating that, “So far, it’s been a pretty good success.” Wilson said the city will seek to refine the mall set-up even further in future weeks. The next round begins this Friday at 3 p.m. and the summer concert series’ Friday evening concert will return to the portable stage at Main and Grove Streets at 6 p.m. Performing will be the Cadillac Cats.
