Lock Haven’s First Main Street Closure Weekend in the Books
LOCK HAVEN – City Council is scheduled for a Monday night discussion on the city’s first Friday/Saturday closure of E. Main Street last weekend.
The city had blocked off E. Main Street from Jay to Vesper Streets both Friday and Saturday to provide a pedestrian thoroughfare to aid downtown businesses.
Main Street restaurants set up outside dining and the city also established an outdoor dining area at its municipal parking lot between Grove and Vesper Streets. Lock Haven Elks Club members were able to use the club’s outdoor patio for takeout dining with food from nearby restaurants. A stage was set up at the Main and Grove Streets intersection and drew an occasional informal performance from local residents.
Clinton County Commissioner Angela Harding, at the commissioners’ Monday work session, congratulated the city on its effort, stating all involved “did a nice job.” She encouraged the community to support the downtown opportunity.
The downtown closure is to run each Friday and Saturday through the end of September. Council has as an agenda item for its Monday night meeting the closure topic.
