Jersey Shore’s Broadway Hotel Gutted in Overnight Fire

JERSEY SHORE – A state police fire marshal on Sunday morning was at the scene of a Saturday night fire that gutted the 3-story Broadway Hotel at 120 S. Broad Street, Jersey Shore. Police and firemen had to rescue a third-floor resident who required treatment for smoke inhalation and another resident suffered hand burns.

The fire was discovered around 10 p.m. Saturday. Patrons in the first floor bar at the time of the alarm were able to escape the frame structure.

Authorities said Tiadaghton Valley Regional Policeman Shawn Hummer and four volunteer firemen from Jersey Shore’s Citizen’s and Independent hose companies were able to rescue the third-floor resident who had broken out a window and was yelling for assistance when firemen arrived.

Firemen from multiple companies in both Lycoming and Clinton counties responded to the alarm. There is no word yet on a cause. A nearby resident told therecord-online he was told the cause was a space heater which exploded but there has been no official confirmation to that report.
