LOCK HAVEN – Clinton County Commissioners past and present joined together to honor late county commissioner Harold C. Yost, Jr. who passed away Tuesday at the age of 76. Yost served as a county commissioner from 2000 to 2007 and previously served as Lock Haven Mayor. His funeral was held on Friday.

Eleven commissioners, past and present, assembled at the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home Thursday evening to pay their respects. Only former commissioner Joel Long was unable to attend.

Attendees included current commissioners Pete Smeltz, Jeff Snyder and Paul Conklin who at their Thursday meeting marked Yost’s passing with a letter of tribute to the Yost family:

To the Family of Harold C. Yost, Jr.

It is with great sorrow that the Clinton County Board of Commissioners learned of the passing of former Commissioner Harold C. “Bud” Yost, Jr. on July 9, 2019. Although we did not serve side by side with Bud in the role of Commissioner, we did know Bud personally and thought highly of him as a fellow public servant.

We know of him as a local athletic phenomenon, setting records and earning many victories and honors as a Lock Haven High School student-athlete. How proud he was of being recruited by Rip Engle and Joe Paterno to play football at Penn State University. He left college and made a name for himself there, but he always loved and appreciated his home. What an honor to have appeared in two college bowl games!

We knew him as a business owner and hard worker. We knew of his record of public service, having served from 1996 to 1999 as Mayor of Lock Haven and two terms as County Commissioner from 2000 to 2007.

We knew of his love for his family and of the outdoors. And we knew him for his sense of fun and his sense of humor.

It was for all of these accomplishments and characteristics that Bud Yost was known and appreciated. We offer our sympathies to the family who feel the loss, but who will always remember his place in your lives and your hearts.

It is an honor for us, on behalf of all the previous Clinton County Commissioners and County employees who have known and worked with Bud, to offer our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the members of the family of Harold C. “Bud” Yost, Jr.

Warmest Regards,

The Clinton County Board of Commissioners
