Sanitary Sewer Project Nearing Completion

LOCK HAVEN – Motorists on E. Walnut St. in Lock Haven may be wondering what all that above-ground piping is about. It is all part of city efforts to install a new liner in a sanitary sewer serving the city’s sewage treatment plant at the lower end of town.

As explained by City Engineer Jason Dershem, the project consists of lining the existing 24” sanitary sewer line with a Cured in Placed Plastic Pipe (CIPP).

“We are using UV curing which requires a little longer to prepare for but is much better for the environment (very little styrene is released through UV curing),” Dershem said.

The contractor is Skanex Pipe Services, Inc. from Victor, NYand the project cost for E. Walnut Street is approximately $326,280.In addition to the 24” sanitary sewer pipe being lined, the city is rehabilitating six manholes. Dershem said the portion of the project on Walnut St. should be wrapping up this week with just a small amount of time to rehabilitate the manholes in the near future.

The city engineer said the improvement should have little impact on nearby properties: “As always unless the city contacts you regarding your property/business you will continue to have access at all times.”
