Bucktail Softball Too Much for Muncy, 7-1
MUNCY – For only the second time in this record-breaking season, the Bucktail softball team had to go the full seven innings, but had more than enough on Tuesday to down Muncy by a 7-1 count.
The win was number 12 in 12 tries and for the second game in a row, the Bucktail pitchers tossed a no-hitter. This time it was starter Emma Poorman and reliever Myka Poorman sharing duties, Emma the first five innings for the win, Myka finishing up the final two. They combined for 10 strikeouts, giving up 6 walks.
Muncy, the third place team in the Mid-Penn Conference, stayed with the visiting Lady Bucks through the first four innings, no score at that point. But Bucktail pushed through for four runs in the top of the fifth, one more in the sixth and two in the seventh. Muncy meanwhile was kept off the board until scoring a run in the sixth without benefit of a hit.
All nine Bucktail players had at least one hit, led by Tessa Cowfer, Jordan Burrows and Raileigh Isaacs with two singles each to pace a 12-hit attack, all singles. Others came from Emily Cross, the Poorman sisters, Rachel Goss, Sara Kepler and Julie Green. Cross drove in three runs, Emma Poorman with run and one each from Green and Isaacs.
Muncy dropped to 7-3 in Mid-Penn play, 7-6 overall. Bucktail is now 12-0 and 9-0 in league play. Next up for the Lady Bucks is a home contest Thursday with Sullivan County (4-8) and a Friday contest at St.John Neumann (2-5). Next major test should come next Monday, May 6, home with Montgomery. The Raiders are in second place in the Mid-Penn with an 8-1 mark, 9-2 overall. Montgomery’s lone loss came earlier this season, by a 19-2 to Bucktail.
