Lady Bucks Handle Benton, 14-4

FARWELL – The Bucktail Lady Bucks early on actually trailed in their Saturday afternoon home contest with winless Benton (0-3). But this young Bucktail squad never panicked, scored in every inning and went on to a 14-4, 6-inning triumph, the fourth in four tries for the undefeated Lady Bucks, no opponent yet going the full seven innings.

Benton used one early hit and a few other opportunities to put across two runs in the top of the first and two more in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead. But Bucktail had its offense in gear, scoring in every inning, breaking things open in the bottom of the fifth with seven runs. Two more in the bottom of the sixth brought the game to an end with the 14-4 final.

Freshman Emma Poorman was again the headline maker. She pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one hit and the Benton runs. She was 3-for-4 at the plate with a homerun and seven RBIs. Older sister Myka helped out, pitching 1.1 innings to close things out. Emma recorded 10 strikeouts, walking five. Myka gave up one hit, had two strikeouts and walked four.

The Lady Buck offense was again awesome, piling up 11 hits and stealing 11 bases. Sara Kepler was 2-for-3 with a double and Myka Poorman had a single and two runs batted in. Also contributing singles were Jordan Burrows, Raileigh Isaacs, Emma Intallura, Tessa Cowfer and Emily Cross. Cowfer had four stolen bases to her credit and Cross and Julia Green each worked two walks.

The Lady Bucks go out of Mid-Penn action to start next week, at Galeton (0-2) on Monday, April 8, and at Oswayo Valley (0-1) on Wednesday, April 10.

Bucktail and Muncy are the lone undefeated teams left in the Mid-Penn, the Lady Bucks 3-0 in the conference, Muncy, 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Penn. They will have their first of two regular season meetings in Farwell on April 15.
