Lady Bucks Avenge 2018 Playoff Loss to Montgomery, 19-2
MONTGOMERY – You might want to call Bucktail’s Thursday softball game at Montgomery a statement game. It was May a year ago the Lady Bucks ventured to Montgomery and a District 4 playoff game. The home-standing Lady Raiders quashed any Bucktail postseason hopes with a 3-2 win.
That was May 2018. On Thursday, April 4, 2019 the two teams met again in Montgomery, the first of two regular season meetings. The Lady Bucks of coach Mike Poorman got revenge to the tune of a 19-2 four-inning win.
The victory for the Lady Bucks was their third romp in three games. And they did it with no seniors in the line-up, a squad composed of seven juniors and seven freshmen.
It was one of the freshmen who took the ball against Montgomery. Emma Poorman was equal to the challenge. Backed by an error-free defense, Poorman went the distance, tossing a 4-hitter, striking out two. She helped herself at the plate, picking up three hits and driving in four runs. Older sister Myka Poorman led the Bucktail 15-hit attack with four hits and, like her sister, drove in four runs. Emily Cross chipped in with three hits.
Emily Snyder, the winning pitcher for Montgomery a year ago, took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings.
Now 3-0, the Lady Bucks are next in action on Saturday, a home game at 3 p.m. against Benton.
