Wildcats at Buckskin Holiday Classic

LANCASTER – Central Mountain is on the road this weekend to participate in the Buckskin Holiday Classic held at Conestoga High School.

The Wildcats will face field of 27 teams from three states that include familiar area foes in Bellefonte, Jersey Shore, Philipsburg-Osceola and Shikellamy.

Of note, it appears that only five of the 27 teams have a full roster of wrestlers with nine teams fielding fewer than 10 wrestlers in the tournament.

In the early going of the first round, all 14 Wildcats have either won or received a bye. After the first round Central Mountain is in second place of the team race with 30.0 points, right behind New Oxford with 34 points.

UPDATE – After the Round of 16, Central Mountain has moved into first place in the team race with 57.0 points ahead of New Oxford, 56; Central Dauphin, 47.0; Father Judge, 44.0 and Conestoga Valley, 43.5 to round out the top 5 teams. Bellefonte is in 11th place with 36.0, Philipsburg-Osceola, is 14th with 32.5; Shikellamy at 17th with 27.0and Jersey Shore in 26th with 13.0.

Following the first consolation round, New Oxford vaulted back into first place in the team race with 71.0 points, Central Mountain in second with 58.0 and Conestoga Valley with 53.5 for third place.

We will do our best to bring you the results for all the Central Mountain wrestlers participating in the tournament. The realists will appear below and update automatically as we get them.

FINAL UPDATE – Central Mountain had a tough quarterfinal round with five wrestlers knocked out of the championship bracket. Cody Coleman (138), Lane Porter (145), Austin Confer (170), Tanner Riggle (220) and Jacob Edwards (285) will join Alonzo Henry (152), Caleb Porter (160), Gage Sutliff (182) and Nikolas Miller (195) in the wrestle backs. Derek Keen (106), Taylor Weaver (113), Johnny Shreffler (120) and Dalton Bechdel (126) will all advance to the semi-finals on Saturday. Kayden Busey (132) has been eliminated from the tournament.

Final team standings after Day 1 has New Oxford out in front with 97.0 points followed by Central Mountain with 90.0, Father Judge is third with 87.0, the hosts, Conestoga Valley in fourth place with 79.0 and Owen J. Roberts rounds out the top five with 78.5. Bellefonte is eighth with 69.5, Philipsburg-Osceola, 11th with 63.0, Shikellamy 14th with 58.0 and Jersey Shore is 26th with 23.0.

The second day of wrestling will begin tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with the semi-final round along with consolation rounds, 4 and 5. The championship and consolation finals are slated for 2 p.m.
