CM Faculty ‘Schools’ Students in Benefit Volleyball Game
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – The inspiration of a Central Mountain senior project by Abigail Weaver came to fruition tonight at the CM gym. Originally, the event was to pit male members of the senior class against male members of the junior class on the volleyball court, a twist on ‘Powder Puff’ football. As it turned out, there were difficulties arranging for enough players to filed teams so there was a change in plans, turning the event into an all male faculty vs students format with members of the Lady Wildcat volleyball team serving as coaches and line judges. Chip McCann and Moriah Lindsey served as the officials.
Playing for the faculty were: Jim Renninger, Mike Kramer, John Herman, Ken Marquart, Billy Hook and Dr. Jeff Brinker.
The student roster included: Tyler Weaver, Tanner Swinehart, Zach Eck, Carter Simcox, Luke Swinehart, Zach Somers, Lane Porter, Dalton Bechdel and Evan Conklin.
In the end, the faculty team prevailed 3-0 over the student all-stars in straight games. Then followed that win with a 2-0 victory over a bonus matchup against members od the Lady Wildcat volleyball squad that included: McKenzie Hanna, Jenni Skow, Abigail Brinker, Loni Duck, Evie Rembold and CM alum, Lindsey.
In the first game against the students, the faculty set the tone by jumping out to a 15-8 lead. Then the students closed the gap, still trialing 22-18, then fell to the the teachers, 25-18.
In game 2, the Old Timers, fell behind early, 7-1 then worked their way back into contention trailing 12-10 at the mid-way point. In short order, the faculty finally took the lead at 14-13, then extended that lead to 20-15 offering up another lesson for their pupils. The youngsters would not yield to their mentors just yet, battling back to knot the score at 23-all. Then the score would be tied 3 more times in a see-saw battle before the faculty would eventually pull ahead for the 27-25 win.
In game three, the faculty once again put the pressure on the students building a 12-5 lead before rolling to a 25-9 win in the best of 5 format.
In the bonus game vs. the ladies, the faculty counted to employ their decades of wisdom and experience by with a 25-19 win in the first game. The ladies would battle mightily in the second game but fell to the faculty, 26-24.
All proceeds raised from the game will benefit the Gift of Life Foundation and the concession stand funds will go to the Central Mountain High School yearbook class/club to raise money for a new camera.
