SSG Daniel K. Stein Family 2018 Beneficiary of Harger Utility Charities
LOCK HAVEN – Misty Stein and her 6-year-old daughter Claire are this year’s beneficiaries from the annual Harger Utility Charities Sporting Clays Tournament.
The presentation from the Harger foundation was made recently to Mrs. Stein and her daughter. SSG Daniel K. Stein, a decorated Marine Corps and US Army veteran, succumbed in June of 2017 to PTSD, an anxiety disorder affecting many veterans, and TBI, brain damage from an external force, also taking a toll on many conflict veterans.
The Harger foundation has awarded well over $100,000 to deserving recipients. Charity co-founder Dave Harger said the annual clay shoot proceeds are given to wounded veterans or the families of veterans who have lost their lives. He said many returning veterans and their families struggle, their need considerable. He said the annual giving is without restrictions for the recipients.
The Harger charity also this spring awarded a scholarship to a student at Central Mountain High School in memory of SGT Douglas Harger. Charity committee members are president Brooke Stover; founding members Dave Harger and John Hoy; treasurer Steven Moore and member Beth Moore. Harger also said Don Harger has been invaluable in his assistance to the charity work.
The 7th annual Harger Utility Charities Sporting Clays Tournament was held Sept. 8 at the Thunder Ridge Sporting Clays Center in Middlebury Center. It was the largest ever, drawing 196 people, 154 of them shooters.
Mrs. Stein meanwhile has founded her own organization to assist veterans, the Daniel K. Stein Mission, Inc. The mission’s goal is to “Raise Awareness of Combat PTSD and TBI through Unity, Leadership, and Advocacy – One Family at a Time.”
