Keystone Preps for Trip to Bristol
MILL HALL – The Keystone Little League All-Stars got in a final workout at the Mill Hall Little League field Thursday evening before an appreciative crowd of well-wishers. The recently crowned Pennsylvania champions will depart Friday around noontime for the trip to Bristol, CN and the Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament.
In addition to practice, the squad also heard from players and coaches from the previous two Keystone state championship teams. Those addressing the team included Bill Garbrick, head coach of the 2011 squad which finished third in the United States at the Little League World Series.
Others present to wish the 2018 team well included Garbrick’s assistant Chip Miller and 2011 team member Landon Breon; Cole Hanley, an assistant with the 2016 team; and 2016 squad members Ryan Thompson and Nash Welch. All told the 2018 Keystoners to enjoy the experience and said they would make friendships to last a lifetime.
The public workout was also a fundraiser for the league to help underwrite the costs of making what could prove to be a week-long trip to Bristol.
Keystone will open play Monday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. against the winner of a Sunday game between championship teams from New York and Washington, D.C. The tourney will run through Saturday, Aug. 11, the championship game scheduled for 7 p.m. The winner will qualify for the Little League World Series in South Williamsport later in August.
