Clinton 9-11 Softball Edged by Yough, 6-4
WEST NEWTON – The Clinton 9-11 Softball All-Stars put up a good fight in an elimination game against the host team, Yough in the 9-11 Pennsylvania State Little League Softball Tournament, falling 6-4.
Yough scored one run in each of the first 2 innings to hold a slim 2-0 lead. Then Clinton found some momentum to knot the score 2-2 in the top go the third inning. It was base hits for Kierstyn Reed and Danica Kelly, a walk for Aubrey Eiler and a fielder’s choice play doing the damage for Clinton.
Yough then responded with another run in the bottom of the third inning to inch forward 3-2.
Clinton would ties the game again in the top of the fourth inning using a triple from Brynn Swanger and an RBI single from Mattisyn Mason.
Once again, Yough scored a lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead in this see-saw battle now leading 4-3.
Then Yough broke serve in the top of the fifth when they shut down Clinton in the top of the inning and scored 2 more runs in the bottom half to extend their lead to 6-3.
Clinton attempted to rally in the top of the sixth inning using a single and a pair of stolen bases from Swanger to narrow the margin to 6-4 still in favor of Yough.
Leah Lohman also had a base hit in the game.
Jacey Tripp went the distance in the circle once again, yielding 7 hits, 6 walks and striking out 8 Yough batters.
With the loss, Clinton was retired from the tournament and earned an overall record of 3-2 for their 2018 campaign.
Of note, Clinton had an equal or slightly larger fan base at the game than the host team. Clinton manager, Kevin Trip said the team and coaching staff was very appreciative of the support they received so far from home.
