Clinton 9-11 All-Stars Take 18-8 Win over Jersey Shore Area

LOCK HAVEN – It was a classic donnybrook between the Clinton 9-11 All-Stars and the Jersey Shore Area All-Stars Tuesday night in their first round meeting in the District 12 tournament. Clinton managed to roll to a 18-8 five-inning win.

The game was close in the early going with Clinton holding on to a slim 4-1 margin after 2 innings. Then Jersey Shore knotted the score in the bottom of the third at 4-4.

Then Clinton pulled ahead by plating 6 runs in the top of the sixth inning, then seven more in the top of the fifth to hold a 18-4 advantage.

Down but not out, Jersey Shore scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth and the miracle run that would have kept the game alive turned into the the final out of the game with Clinton winning 18-4.

Leading the way offensively for Clinton were Brynn Swanger with a double and a single. Mattisyn Mason also had a double with Danica Kelly, Ellie Heaton and Kierstyn Reed all producing base hits.

Both teams had their struggles in the circle tonight, though Clinton held the edge there too. Jacey Trip and Brynn Swanger shared the pitching duties for Clinton giving up 10 walks and striking out 9 Jersey Shore batters.

For ‘Shore, it was Cailyn Schall, Dani Miller and Kalsga Johns splitting the duty giving up 4 hits, 15 walks, striking out 5 Clinton batters.

There are only 2 teams in this division entered into the tournament so they will meet again in Woolrich on Thursday, July 12 at 6 p.m. If Clinton should win that game, they will be be the D-12 champs. If Jersey Shore would win, there will be a winner-take-all tie-breaker game at Woolrich on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m.
