Clinton 8-10 All-Stars Built 15-5 Win over East Lycoming
HUGHESVILLE ā It took an extra day, but the Clinton Softball 8-10 All-Stars earned a trip to the District 12 finals with a 15-5 win over East Lycomng. In-all, Clinton used 10 hits, 10 walks and 4 stolen bases in the win.
The game was suspended Monday evening when intense thunderstorm passed through the area, tonight the game began in the bottom of the first inning with East Lycoming at bat, trailing 1-0, with a runner on third base and one out on the board.
EL managed to score two runs to take a slim 2-1 advantage.
Clinton answered back with another run in the second inning to knot the score at 2-2.
In the top of the third inning, Clinton got down to business and really poured on the pressure by scoring 11 more runs.
Cirstyn Watson and Ava Doyle got things rolling with back-to-back doubles, followed by a walk for Shea Yost, a base hit for Rylan Andrews and a walk for Taylor Doyle. Then it was base hits from Kendall Wagner and Camden Weaver with walks for Ellen Banfill and Watson. Ava Doyle smacked a base hit, a walk for Yost then it was three consecutive hits from Andrews, Taylor Doyle and Wagner that gave a Clinton a commanding 13-2 lead.
East Lycoming would battle back for 2 more runs in the bottom of the third inning, still trailing 13-4.
Clinton was not finished as they picked up another pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, this time it was walks from Makenna Stone and Watson to set the stage and a sac fly from Yost to close out the scoring for Clinton and a 15-4 lead.
East Lycoming mustered one more run in the bottom of the fourth but it wasn’t enough to get past the mercy rule ending.
Watson went the distance in the circle once again allowing 4 hits, 6 walks and striking out 7 batters.
With the win, Clinton earned a rematch with South Williamsport scheduled for Wednesday, July 4 at the Clinton Field on Myrtle St. in Lock Haven. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
