Inspired by Thunder and Lightning, Clinton Rolls over East Lycoming, 21-0
LOCK HAVEN – It took 27 hours to complete but the Clinton 11-12 All-Stars pounded out a 21-0 win over East Lycoming in District 12 consolation round competition.
The game was originally slated for Sunday at 4 p.m. but was suspended in the top of the first inning with Clinton holding a 5-0 lead with two outs on the board and a runner on third base. Today, the game resumed from that point at 6 p.m. Even though Clinton was the local team, as with all Little League tournament games, the home team is decided by coin toss which resulted in Clinton designated the visiting squad, giving them first at-bat.
Even though there was plenty of sunshine and blue sky overhead on Monday, the thunder from the Clinton bats rang loud and aggressive base running was like lighting strikes on the scoreboard. Not to mention Clinton was producing a lights-out effort on defense for the 3 inning mercy rule ending.
In all, Clinton pounded out 11 hits, stole 8 bases and took advantage of 9 East Lycoming wild pitches to roll up the win in short order.
Kelsey Burrows led the way with her bat recording 3 singles for 3 RBI. Julia Shubach had a double and a base hit while Bree Weaver and Audrey Walker each had a pair of base hits. Harley Kunes had a double and Hana Styers had an RBI single to her credit.
In the circle, Schubach worked the first inning allowing only 1 hit, no walks, striking out three EL batters. Bree Weaver came in and pitched the last two innings yielding no hits, 1 walk and picking up 3 strikeouts.
Clinton won’t have long to celebrate their victory as they will be back in action tomorrow, June 26, 2018 when they will travel to Nippenose and take on Montoursville who lost to Williamsport 15-2 on Sunday. Clinton lost to Williamsport in their first round game on June 18, 10-0. The winner of Tuesday’s game will earn a berth in the finals with Williamsport on Thursday June 28, 2018 at Elm Park.
