Lady ‘Cats Pick Up 1-0 Win over Shamokin in Defensive Battle
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP ā Central Mountain picked up a 1-0 win over Shamokin in high school softball today. It wasn’t a commanding victory but it was a solid defensive effort by both teams.
The Lady Indians threatened in the top of the first inning used a double, a hit batsman and a single to load the bases with one out. That threat was short-lived as the Lady ‘Cats picked up two quick outs to quell the Shamokin effort.
Then Central Mountain used that momentum in the batter’s box in the bottom half of the first. With one out on the board, Josie Dershem, Morgan Wetzel and Skylar Smith ponded out back-to-back-toback base hits to score the games only run with Smith credited for there RBI.
Then it was an unofficial private contest of 3-up, 3-down by both defensive units until the until the fourth inning when Smith would have her second single of the game but the threat ended quickly with two quick outs.
Shamokin tried putting together a late rally in the top of the sixth inning when they led off with a pair of base hits … but it was the CM defense that would rally stronger to retire the side and preserve the narrow 1-0 CM lead.
