LHU Softball falls to Gannon at PSAC Tournament
QUAKERTOWN – The Lock Haven University softball team (36-11) fell to Gannon University (28-12) 7-3 today in the semifinals at the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
With the win, Gannon advances to tomorrow’s title game and Lock Haven will return to action today (Friday, May 4). Later today, Lock Haven will play the winner of the West Chester – Seton Hill game in an elimination game. For updates on the start time, follow @HavenAthletics on Twitter.
Seton Hill scored its seven runs on 11 hits.
Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) led the way the plate for LHU with a 2 for 2 outing. She scored once. Lock Haven’s five other hits came from five different players.
Lock Haven – the home team in today’s game – trailed 1-0 after 1, after Gannon struck in the top of the first.
Gannon led off the second inning with back-to-back home runs and led 3-0 before Bekah Slattery (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) entered the game to pitch. She helped end the early offensive surge from Gannon. The Lady Knights led 3-0 after two.
Gannon added three more runs in the top of the third and led 6-0.
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Lock Haven got on the board thanks to a home run from Amanda Loar (Barto, Pa./Boyertown), who blasted the first-pitch home to deep left-center field.
In the bottom of the sixth – trailing 7-1 – the Bald Eagle bats heated up and struck for two runs. Bree Hilty (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) singled up the middle and drove in a run, and Madison Mathes (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton) knocked in a run with a single to left. Gannon led 7-3 after six.
The 7-3 Gannon lead held and Lock Haven was pushed into an elimination game, scheduled for later today at Veterans Park in Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

Lock Haven opened the 2018 PSAC Tournament Wednesday (May 2) with a 1-0 win over Millersville. Yesterday, LHU downed Seton Hill, 9-6 to advance to todays’ semifinal vs. Gannon.
