Prough’s Bat Paces CM in 15-1 Romp over Mustangs

MIDDLEBURG – Evan Prough led the Wildcats with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate to set the pace for a 15-1 PHAC road win over Midd-West.

Central Mountain (10-4, 7-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first with Zach Eck reaching base on an error, Asher Corl smacked a single, Mahlik Houtz was hit by a pitch followed by a double from Aaron Swartz. Prough then had his first hit of the day, a single. Then it was a single from Trevor Hanna. Troy Gardner then plated a run on a sac fly and Rocco Stark was hit by a pitch before Zach Eck grounded out to stop the scoring giving CM the 5-0 lead.

Prough had his second single of the game, this time a 2-out RBI to extend the Wildcat lead to 7-0.

Asher Corl pounded out a 3-run homer in the top of the third to put the ‘Cats up 10-0. Prough also had a double in the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, Donovan Burnell worked a walk and then scored on a RBI single from Ross Glossner to make it 11-0 in favor of Central Mountain.

The Mustangs would finally break the seal by scoring a lone run in the bottom of the fourth, still trailing 11-1.

The Wildcats would seal the win with four more runs in the top of the fifth. This time Adam Lindsey and Austin Rager would works walks to get runners on first and second. Prough would hit his third base hit of the day to load the bases. Burnell would also earn a walk to force in a run and a 12-1 Wildcat lead.

With 2 outs on the board, Glossner would get a walk and Brady Eck would follow on with a double to score Prough and Burnell, advancing Glossner to third to set the final score at 15-1.

On the mound it was Caleb Shade getting the start and allowed 3 hits and striking out 2 batters in three innings of work. Tanner Spangler finished the final two inning yielding one hit, 1 walk, striking out 5 batters.

Central Mountain will return home to host District 6 rival, Bellefonte on Friday, May 4, 2018. If history is any indication, that meeting will be a memorable occasion.
