Sullivan County Stacks Up 14-7 Win over Lady Bucks

FARWELL – Just a week ago the Lady Bucks were happy to get back to .500 for the season. Since then they have dropped three in a row, this time falling to Sullivan County by a score of 14-7. The Lady Bucks are shooting themselves in the foot. The pitching is there as Myka Poorman struck out 9 batters, only allowing 6 hits.

Why did SC score 14 runs then? The devil’s word in softball “Errors”. The Lady Bucks had 14 errors and have been avg. 5 per game. That is not good for the defensive side of the ball. Seven errors alone in the second inning as SC jumped out to a 8-2 lead after two innings.

Bucktail scored in the bottom of the first with two outs. Poorman singled as Emily Cross smashed a triple into left field for the RBI. Cross would score on an error off the bat of Makenzi Brennan. Then in the third inning, the Lady Bucks would score three runs. Maria D’Onofrio singled to lead-off the effort. Cross would get on by a fielder’s choice. Brennan would single for a run. Cross would steal home as Brennan would cross the plate from a Kayli Casper double to center field. Making it 8-5 after three complete.

SC would add two runs in the fourth as the Lady Bucks would answer with two runs of their own. Anna Cowfer would draw a walk as D’Onofrio lay down a sacrifice bunt to scored Cowfer. Cross would single for the RBI as the score goes to 10-7 SC.

SC would finish the seventh inning by scoring four runs as the Lady Bucks could only find one hit in the last three innings by Lexi Labaugh.

The Lady Bucks offense saw Cross go 2-for-4 and 2 RBI in the game. The Lady Bucks need to change gears on the defensive side of the game quickly.

Lady Bucks (4-7) will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Montgomery starting at 4:30 p.m.
