Wildcats Tip the Scales on Bulldogs for 2-0 Win

JERSEY SHORE β Whenever the Wildcats and the Bulldogs meet on the baseball diamond, it going to be a game to remember. Today was no exception.
Jersey Shore traveled to Mill Hall back on April 11 and edged Central Mountain 2-1 in a solid pitching duel between Shore’s Tim Saar and the Wildcat’s Aaron Swartz. Today it was more of the same, only the venue changed and the winning team this time was CM by a 2-0 score in another classic pitching duel.
The first Central Mountain run came in the first inning when Asher Corl hit a one-out single to get on board. Mahlik Houtz grounded out to a fielder’s choice that moved Corl to second base. Then Swartz helped his own cause with a base hit that plated Corl for the only run the Wildcats would need in the game to give CM a 1-0 lead.
For the next five innings, the two teams would trade blows but neither defense would yield. Both teams would threaten with runners in scoring position but the pitching picked up intensity and when it really mattered the fielding would get the job done.
Some highlights of the Cm defense included a key double play when Trevor Hanna made a diving grab and completed the turn for the second out to Houtz at third, picking out the lead runner for the third out.
Tanner Lavelle began another DP in the bottom of the fifth relayed to Hanna who made an accurate throw to first baseman, Troy Gardner to complete a 4-6-3 double play that stifled another Bulldog threat.
In the top of the sixth inning, Central Mountain earned another run on a solid lead-off double from Houtz. Swartz laid down a perfect sac bunt to move Houtz to third, then Evan Prough put the ball in play with Houtz easily beating the tag at the plate for the 2-0 CM lead.
Saar pitched 6 solid inning for there Bulldogs with Aaron Best closing the last three outs for ‘Shore. Saar allowed 5 hits, walked one batter and struck out 6. Best had one strikeout in the last inning.
For the Wildcats Swartz yielded 3 hits, walked one Bulldog batter and struck out 10 in 7.2 innings of work. Zane Probst came in for the final out and only needed two pitches to force a fly-out to center field to end the game and seal the win for the Wildcats.
Austyn Carson and Rocco Stark also had hits in the game for the ‘Cats.
Central Mountain moves to 9-2 overall, 6-2 in the PHAC, one game behind Jersey Shore at 9-2 and 7-1 in the conference.
Jersey Shore also observed Veterans Appreciation Day for honoring veterans in attendance in a pre-game ceremony.
The Wildcats will return to action on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 when they host Midd-West.
