Wildcats Pound Out 17-3 Win at Shamokin
SHAMOKIN – Central Mountain used 10 hits and 5 Shamokin errors to earn a key PHAC 17-3 road win on Monday. The Wildcats fired up their bats early, led by senior third baseman, Mahlik Houtz who had a 3-3, 3RBI effort at the plate. The takes CM to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in the PHAC.
In the first inning, CM picked up their first four runs resulting from walk for Tanner Lavelle, a double from Asher Corl, a single from Houtz to put the ‘Cats up 2-0 in the early going. Evan Prough then had a base hit and a double from Trevor Hanna scored the other pair of runs in the first inning to give Central Mountain a 4-0 lead.
Shamokin could only muster a single run in the bottom of the first inning to narrow the gap 4-1.
The Indians tacked on another run in the bottom of the second inning and the Wildcats plated another run in the top of the third when Houtz went yard for a solo homer to set the score at 5-2 in favor of Central Mountain.
CM brushed off the bats and made another push in the fifth inning. This time the Wildcats used a single from Houtz, walks from Corl, Prough Corl and Aaron Swartz and a pair of Shamokin miscues to set the score at 10-2 in favor of the ‘Cats.
Central Mountain was back at scoring more run in the top of the seventh inning.
Swartz led off with a double in the seventh followed by a walk for Brady Eck, Donovan Burnell was hit by a pitch and Ross Glossner arched base on another Shamokin error. It was another walk to put Tanner Lavell on base, followed by a single from Corl, then Adam Lindsey took advantage of another Indian miscue. Hanna, Swartz and Burnell each had base hits to wrap up the slug fest for the Wildcats.
Shamokin did plate one more run in the bottom of the seventh to set the final score at 17-3.
With the early success in the game, CM head coach, Mike Kramer was able to substitute freely giving several young players some valuable varsity playing experience.
On the mound, sophomore Zane Probst had his first varsity start of the season. Probst worked the first 6 innings allowing 5 hits, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts and 2 runs. Junior, Chase Payton took care of the close for the final 3 outs for the ‘Cats yielding 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 run.
The Wildcats will be back on the road Wednesday, April 25, 2018 to face the Shikellamy Braves in Sunbury.
In other PHAC action tonight, Jersey Shore, also 7-1 overall but 5-0 in the PHAC picked up a 7-5 win over Shik tonight.
