Pitching Powers Bald Eagles to Sweep of Goldey-Beacom

LOCK HAVEN – Pitchers Bekah Slattery (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and Kayla Gee (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock) threw back-to-back gems and the Lock Haven University softball team swept visiting Goldey-Beacom College (3-30) today in non-conference action.

Lock Haven won game one, 2-0, behind Slattery’s one-hitter and LHU took game two, 6-0, behind a two-hitter from Gee.

With the sweep, the Bald Eagles hit the 30-win mark and improved to 30-10 overall. The pair of wins also ran LHU’s most recent win streak to eight and helped Lock Haven remain perfect at home in 2018 (12-0).

Saturday’s (April 21) sweep of IUP helped Lock Haven move to a perfect 16-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action. At 16-0, LHU clinched the PSAC Central regular season title over the weekend.

GAME 1: W, 2-0

Slattery was the biggest story in game one. She struck out 13 and outdueled GBC-pitcher Taylor Beres in a game that took just one hour. Slattery was masterful and allowed just one hit in the first inning.

Moriah Lindsey (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) had two of LHU’s five game-one hits and Amanda Loar’s (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) RBI-single in the third made it 2-0.

GAME 2: W, 6-0

In game two, the bats backed up Gee’s outstanding effort from the circle. Gee struck out nine and scattered two hits after taking the no-hitter into the sixth inning.

The bats produced six runs on 12 hits. Loar was 2 for 3 and Casey Carpenter (Spring Brook, Pa./North Pocono) was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Stefanie O’Grady (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) was 2 for 2 at the plate.

Lock Haven jumped all over GBC early and plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

SCHEDULE CHANGE:

LHU’s makeup-doubleheader tentatively scheduled for Wednesday (April 25) at Shippensburg University has officially been cancelled. The games will not be made up.

UP NEXT:

Lock Haven will travel to Clarion University on Friday, April 27 for a PSAC Central doubleheader (2:30/4:30 p.m.). Saturday (April 28), the Bald Eagles will host Mansfield University in LHU’s 2018 Senior Day DH (1/3 p.m.).
