‘Cats fall 4-2 to Altoona

ALTOONA – The Mountain Lions of Altoona jumped out to a 1-0 start over the Wildcats and outpaced the Wildcats for a 4-2 win.

Altoona’s starting pitcher, Ian Yon, set the tone with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 Mountain Lion lead. The Central Mountain offense couldn’t respond in kind until the sixth inning when they plated a single run then Altoona responded with 3 more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.

Central Mountain made an attempt to reply in kind but could only muster one more run to set the final tally at 4-2 in the Mountain Lion’s favor.

In the game Asher Corl and Evan Prough had a pair of base hits, each, while Trevor Hanna and Mahlik Houtz had singles to their credit. Rocco Stark pounded out a triple with Austyn Carson contributing a base hit and a double in the game.

The Wildcats played aggressively in their base running effort with Asher Corl, Austyn Carson, Evan Prough and Tanner Lavelle all recoding steals for the ‘Cats.

On the mound for CM it was Caleb Shade getting the start and allowed 2 walks, 4 hits, 1 run and 3 strikeouts. Mahlik Houtz pitched the final two innings yielding 3 runs, 7 hits and striking out one batter.

The loss takes the Cental Mountain to 6-2, on the season, 3-1 in the PHAC.

The Wildcats will be on the road, Monday, April 23, 2018 at Shamokin.
