Bucktail Softball Lets One Get Away

MILLVILLE –  The Lady Bucks (1-2) left Monday’s game get away from them as they scored nine runs in the first inning. But the nine runs were not enough as nine errors hurt the Lady Bucks as they lost to Millville in ten innings 15-14.

After Bucktail scored nine runs in the first, Millville would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning with two runs. Bucktail would answer right back in the third with two runs of their own. The game would take a turn like the weather in the last couple of days. Millville would score five runs in the bottom of the third inning, making it 11-7 Bucktail.

Both teams would hold each other in the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning Millville would come up with two runs and two more in the sixth making it 11-11. At the end of the season Coach Mike Poorman is hoping that he does not have to look at this game and wonder what happened? How it happen?

In the top of the ninth inning with two outs. Anna Cowfer and Emily Cross would have singles. Myka Poorman would hit a big double to score A. Cowfer and Cross. Lexi Labaugh would have a hit to score Poorman as the Lady Bucks led 14-11. But wait a minute, Millville said. What the Lady Bucks can do we can do just as well, said Millville. Yes, with two outs and nobody on. Millville comes up with some hits and scored three runs. They also had bases loaded when the Lady Bucks got the third out.

The Lady Bucks could not muster a run. Milleville came up in the bottom of the tenth inning and ended it quickly as the first three batters had hits to score the winning run.

Poorman had a big night on the mound as she recorded 15 strikeouts, four walks and only allowd five earned runs, giving up 11 hits after throwing 178 pitches in nine innings.

Cross was the big offensive player this game as she finished 4 for 6 at the plate with two doubles and a triple while stealing 2 bases and having 3 RBI. Tessa Cowfer was 3 for 6 with a double. Poorman and Emma Intallura each were 2 for 4. Intallura had a triple and a double as Poorman had a double.

The Lady Bucks will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Montgomery for a 4 p.m. start.
