‘Cats Roll over Seals, 11-3
SELINSGROVE – Central Mountain picked up a key PHAC road win, outpacing Selinsgrove 11-3. The Wildcats had ben held to narrow margins do far this season but broke that mold by scoring early and often against the Seals.
With one out on the board in the top of the first inning, Trevor Hanna pounded out a double, followed by a walk from Asher Corl and singles from Mahlik Houtz and Evan Prough. Prough’s base hit scored Hanna and Corl. Troy Gardner then followed with a double to plate Houtz to give CM an early 3-0 lead.
Selinsgrove responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to narrow the gap to a 3-1 Wildcat lead.
Rocco Stark worked a walk to lead off the second inning and then proceeded to steal second base. Then with 2 outs on the board, Asher Corl ripped an RBI single to center field to score Stark for a 4-1 Central Mountain lead.
The Seals picked up another run in the third inning, still trailing, 4-2.
The ‘Cats got the bats working again in the fourth inning, scoring 3 more runs. This time it was Zach Eck with a base hit to right field, another walk from Stark, then Austyn Carson hammers out his first of 3 hits on the day with a 2 RBI single to left field.
With one out in the top of the fourth, Corl smacked a double to right field plating Carson for a 7-2 Wildcat lead.
Selinsgrove picked up their last run of the day in the fifth inning, still trailing CM, 7-3.
Carson led off the sixth inning with a base hit and then advanced to second base on a sac bunt by Hanna. Carson would score the only run of the inning on an error to extend the Wildcat lead to 8-3.
The ‘Cats would put up some insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Prough opened up the action with a sharply hit ball to shortstop and reach base on an error. Adam Lindsey worked a walk, then Arron Swartz belted put a double to score Prough and send Lindsey to third base. Lindsey would score on a fielder’s choice when Brady Eck put the ball in play that also advanced Swartz to third. Then Austin Rager grounded out to short allowing Swartz to score giving Central Mountain their final 11-3 margin.
Caleb Shade picked up the win on the mount with a 6 inning effort. Shade gave up 7 hits and 1 walk, striking out 7 Seals on the day.
Once again it was Zane Probst receiving the call to collect the final three outs, striking out one batter in the process.
The win puts Central Mountain at 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the PHAC.
The Wildcats will next see action on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 when they host rival Jersey Shore for a key PHAC matchup.
