Going, Going, Soon to be Gone…
LOCK HAVEN – A Schuylkill County company is about to begin the process of demolishing the fire-gutted Heilig-Meyers building on Bellefonte Avenue. ADM Logistics of Port Carbon began prep work on Wednesday to bring down the two-story building destroyed in a pre-dawn fire in December of 2016. Cost of the demolition is $67,499.
City manager Greg Wilson said Monday night the work should be completed by April 16, backfilled and leveled.
At the time of the fire more than 15 months ago, city fire chief Bob Neff called the building a total loss; a cause was never determined. Some 20 fire companies from three counties responded to the fire in subfreezing temperatures at 6:33 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, 2016.
