LHU’s Hartzell Advances to Boxing Nationals
LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven University boxing club saw one of its three entrants advance to the National Collegiate Boxing Association finals next month at West Point. The Eastern Regional tourney saw 22 bouts staged Saturday at LHU’s East Campus gym.
Leah Hartzell at 147 pounds was edged for the Eastern regional title by Ebakoliane Obiomon from West Point – Army. Hartzell, a Danville native, was competitive throughout the fight’s three rounds. Coach Ken Cooper said she could “surprise a few people” at the national tourney.
Two other Bald Eagles were defeated and will not continue on. Shaheim Mitchell fell to Penn State’s Colin Johnson in the men’s 147 pound semifinal and Anthony Proctor at 185 pounds lost to Egbezien Obiomon of Army.
Cooper said he was pleased with the showing from his boxers and said his entrants, all underclassmen, have a bright future. He said the Saturday tourney of the session went well as boxers from eight schools competed in the Eastern regionals.
Two final bouts are scheduled for LHU’s East Campus gym Sunday at 10 a.m.
