LHU’s Smokey Stover Announces Retirement

LOCK HAVEN – After 25 years at the helm of the Lock Haven University baseball program, head coach Paul “Smokey” Stover has announced his retirement.

LHU Director of Athletics, Mark Sherburne thanked Stover for his years of service to LHU.

“I appreciate the many contributions that coach Stover has made to the baseball program in his 25 years of service, and wish him a happy and healthy retirement.”

Stover took over the Bald Eagle program in 1990, leading the Bald Eagles to 448 wins during a 25-season span. During his tenure he guided Lock Haven to more than 200 conference wins.

Stover led LHU to the PSAC Tournament 12 times and coached 54 All-Conference players.

Stover was named the PSAC Baseball Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2002. Lock Haven won 30 games in 2000 and played in the PSAC Championship game in 2002.

Stover’s retirement is effective immediately and LHU will begin a national search for a new head baseball coach in the coming days.
