Letter to the Editor – Appreciation for EMS/BMC

let-edTo the Editor:

This letter is for the purpose of highlighting the exceptional care that I received via your local EMS providers (Ambulance) and Bucktail Medical Center. While I have expressed my appreciation to these organizations directly, I wanted to make sure that the community, as a whole is fully aware of the “gems” that you have in the western Clinton County area … YOU should not take them for granted!

The Renovo/South Renovo communities and surrounding areas should feel fortunate to have the volunteers for both Fire and EMS as they do. Frankly, living full-time in Millersville (Lancaster County), PA I “just assume” that these emergency services are “just there”…however, the reality is that they are not and that these services need to rely on both the community’s’ (governmental as well as individual and business) support and encouragement.

I recently had a medical emergency and had the need for an ambulance transport as well as emergency medical care, via Bucktail’s emergency room, prior to being transported to Williamsport Hospital. Frankly, that entire day was quite an extremely painful blur! (I dislocated my hip replacement) but I was (am) very appreciative to your Emergency Services team for providing me the top-notch care that stabilized me sufficiently for transport to Williamsport Hospital. The challenges that I provided them were numerous but the care and consideration that were offered me were superior. I remain very grateful and can only encourage our western Clinton County community to provide them the support they need.

Personally, having served my Millersville Boro for over 40 years as a volunteer fire fighter and Treasurer, I feel that I have a little understanding of EMS needs and am very sensitive to their challenges. They are a critical emergency service with needs for not only your permanent residents but also for visitors to our wonderful communities. While I am fortunate and still call Renovo “home” I am fortunate to be able to support these organizations. In addition, as the Mayor of my community of Millersville, PA, I also know that accolades are rarely conveyed to our elected officials in their capacity so that they have an opportunity to hear from their constituents about the excellent service that these volunteers provide. Volunteer firefighters, EMS workers and/or police are easily criticized, but they need to hear of our support both financially as well as via words of encouragement.

Western Clinton County… you have “gems” via your volunteers….firefighters/EMS providers, etc…You also have a gem with Bucktail Medical Center. These organizations are staffed by well trained and caring individuals, who provide that necessary first level care in order to stabilize a patient. Again, the Renovo/South Renovo communities/surrounding areas should not take these emergency service providers for granted…They are wonderful and need both the public’s as well as the local governments’ ongoing support.
Bottom line, I wanted you to know about the quality care that I received that day…as such, your ongoing encouragement and support is strongly encouraged for these wonderful service providers!

Sincerely,

Richard M. Moriarty
Renovo and Millersville (Lancaster County)
